A Message from Principal Loran

Dear Bell View Mustangs,

After 5 years as principal at Bell View, I have accepted a promotion to become the Administrator in Department of Student Services, Equity and Inclusion. In this capacity, I will be able to support all of the students in Canyons School District. This decision has been bitter sweet. I have loved my time at Bell View and am so grateful for the many connections and relationships I’ve made with you over the years. I will miss seeing your children each day, they bring me so much joy! It will also be so hard to not be a part of the farewells and transition to Glacier Hills. I will be leaving you in good hands. Mrs. Tamra Baker will be taking over as the school year closes. I am including her letter to you here as well.

  1. A Message from Principal Baker

Dear Bell View Families,

It is with great pleasure I wish to introduce myself to you. The Board of Education has given me the honor of being the last principal to serve at Bell View Elementary. Bell View is known for its great history and community spirit. We will work next year together to celebrate Bell View and build a new future for the children in White City while we become Glacier Hills Elementary. What an exciting and thrilling time to be a part of that historic process!

Bell View is the fifth elementary school to lead in my long career. I have also served in the Canyons District office as a school supervisor and as the Student Support Director helping build social emotional resources for the schools and working with the counselors, nurses and other providers in the community. I began my career as an elementary and middle school teacher. I still think teaching is one of the best gigs you can have on the planet. I hope my experience will help the faculty, staff, students and families with this challenging and fun task ahead.

I am a wife, mother, and grandmother (which IS the best hobby in the world!) I love to read, garden (okay, to be perfectly honest, I like to plant and pick flowers/veggies/fruit, but the weeding is not so much fun), paint, do crafts, and laugh a lot. I also really love kids, so being an educator has been a wonderful career choice.

  1. Virtual Groundbreaking to Celebrate the New Glacier Hills ElementaryEnglish Flyer

It’s a great day to be a Yeti! A new dawn arises for the Bell View Mustangs as construction crews begin work on our new Glacier Hills Elementary campus — and we’re celebrating with a virtual groundbreaking ceremony. Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, in-person attendance will be limited and by-invitation-only. We’ll be broadcasting the event live on CSDTV, and invite all families to tune in to the festivities (see flyer below for more information). During the event, we’ll showcase early designs of the new school and thank the Canyons District community for their vote of confidence in approving funding for the project through passage of a bond in 2017. The school is expected to be completed in time to welcome students in the fall of 2022.   1. We’re now enrolling students for Kindergarten (Fall 2021)! We need to know all K students enrolling for fall. Please help us spread the word to neighbors and friends in the area. Children must be five years old before September 1st of the enrolling year. Parents must provide:
    • An official birth certificate
    • An immunization record or exemption form

Registration is a two part process, we will be sending information for our virtual orientation and online registration opens August for all students.

  1. Pick-up Procedures
  • Masks are required on Bell View property.
    • Please respect our staff who support your students, by wearing masks while in your cars, in the parking lot, and drive through lanes.
  • Adults please remain in your vehiclesand children can enter the passenger sides.
  • Parents please stay off the main walkways & always provide 6 feet of physical distance.
  • Please post vehicle tags in your front windows, to speed up the pick-up. Notify our office if you need another!
  • Please notify anyone picking up/dropping off regarding our procedures!
  • If you will be changing the plan for your student on any given day, you must let the office and teacher know by 3:00 PM.
  • Please allow openings for our busses to access the bus lane.
  • The parking lot is a no Cell Phone Zone! For the safety of our students and staff, please hold your calls until you are out of the lot.
  • Be Idle Free, we all breathe the same air, and share in the responsibility to protect it from harmful pollutants emitted by our vehicles, Canyons District has declared all of our school campuses idle-free zones.
  1. Students may enter their classrooms at 8:40am and have breakfast. Due to COVID procedures, we are no longer be able to have students at 8:30am. Thank you for your attention to this.

 

  1. Transportation News, in the event that your student’s bus is late (typically more than 15 minutes), please call CSD dispatchers at 801-826-5252 for a route update.

 

  1. COVID Updates

Please continue reminding students to be responsible and to do their best to keep everyone safe. Remind them to leave home with a mask, keep mouths and noses covered, and wash hands frequently. I was in many classrooms today, and had to remind a lot of children.

  1. Weather Guidelines

Please send your children dressed appropriately. We will continue to have recess outdoors when the “feels-like” temperature is 22 degrees and above. If the temperature is below 30 degrees, student must have coats outdoors. If the temperature is below 40 degrees, students must have sleeves/pants to play outdoors. It is also appropriate to have hats, gloves and boots.  If your students might need any of these items, notify our office you’re your child’s teacher.

Es un gran placer presentarme a ustedes. La Mesa Directiva de Educación me ha dado el honor de ser el último director en servir en Bell View Elementary.   1. Directrices Para el Clima Invernal

A medida que bajan las temperaturas, envíe a sus hijos vestidos apropiadamente. Continuaremos teniendo recreo al aire libre cuando la temperatura “se sienta como” sea de 22 grados o más.   • Monday, March 1, We positively ❤️  Books! Wear a shirt with a positive message. Show a growth mindset, focus on being positive, and find some books with these themes.
  • Tuesday, March 2, Book Character Day! Dress like your favorite book character: Harry Potter, Amy Wu, Dog Man, Matilda, Pete the Cat, RBG, etc.
  • Wednesday, March 3, Celebrate Diversity! Reflect on your family’s traditions and culture. Share something from your culture with your class. Find books about different cultures.
  • Thursday, March 4, Dress for Success! Think about your future, and what you dream to be when you grow up. Dress as your future career or trade. Read books about it.
  • Friday, March 5, Stay in your PJs and read your favorite books at home for part of your continued learning!

Because we all breathe the same air, and share in the responsibility to protect it from harmful pollutants emitted by our vehicles, Canyons District has declared all of our school campuses idle-free zones. With inversion season upon us, we’re reminding families to conserve gas, by walking and biking to school, and reducing school idling during morning drop-off and afternoon pickup.

 

  1. Digital Citizenship Info HAPPY DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP WEEK!

This week children will be participating in Digital Citizenship lessons focused on how to be a good Digital Citizen! Here are six steps to helping your students fight Cyberbullying! Please send your children dressed appropriately. We will continue to have recess outdoors when the “feels-like” temperature is 22 degrees and above. Please give yourself extra time to walk and drive to school or arrive at the bus stop safely. On wet, wintry days, we are lenient with tardies because we want everyone arriving to school safe, sound, and ready to learn. School cancellations are rare in Utah.   • Let’s Share our Grandparents! and our PopPops, Meemaws, Nanas, Abuelas, Gamees, Papis, Abuelos… Just because we can’t be with our grandparents for our traditional Grandparents’ Day read along this year doesn’t mean we can’t show how much we love them.

To safely celebrate our grandparents, we’ll be showing a special video tribute, sharing cherished photos of our Bell View family’s grandparents with our school families. But we need your help. Send a favorite photo of your child spending quality time with their grandparent or special loved one to: rachel.bingham@canyonsdistrict.org or text it to 801-819-2568 by Thursday, March 4. Be sure to include your child’s name and their teacher’s when you send it in. We’ll be compiling these into a tribute video to share with our community!

  1. Parent Teacher Conference will be Wednesday, February 24th and Thursday, February 25th.

Please remember Thursday, February 25this our scheduled Early Release at 1:55. We hope to have all parents participate. This is a great opportunity to see how your student is achieving academically. All conferences will be held virtually or via phone call to mitigate risks with COVID-19. Please inform your child’s teacher of the best option for your family. Teachers will send you a link/phone number to initiate the conference.   • Masks are required on Bell View property.
    • Please respect our staff who support your students, by wearing masks while in your cars, in the parking lot, and drive through lanes.
  • Adults please remain in your vehiclesand children can enter the passenger sides.
  • Parents please stay off the main walkways & always provide 6 feet of physical distance.
  • Please post vehicle tags in your front windows, to speed up the pick-up. Notify our office if you need another!
  • Please notify anyone picking up/dropping off regarding our procedures!
  • If you will be changing the plan for your student on any given day, you must let the office and teacher know by 3:00 PM.
  • Please allow openings for our busses to access the bus lane.

 

  1. Students may enter their classrooms at 8:40am and have breakfast.  Due to COVID procedures, we are no longer be able to have students at 8:30am. Thank you for your attention to this.

 

  1. Transportation News, in the event that your student’s bus is late (typically more than 15 minutes), please call CSD dispatchers at 801-826-5252 for a route update.

Please continue reminding students to be responsible and to do their best to keep everyone safe. Remind them to leave home with a mask, keep mouths and noses covered, and wash hands frequently. I was in many classrooms today, and had to remind a lot of children.

Because we all breathe the same air, and share in the responsibility to protect it from harmful pollutants emitted by our vehicles, Canyons District has declared all of our school campuses idle-free zones. With inversion season upon us, we’re reminding families to conserve gas, by walking and biking to school, and reducing school idling during morning drop-off and afternoon pickup.

  1. Winter Weather Guidelines

Please send your children dressed appropriately. We will continue to have recess outdoors when the “feels-like” temperature is 22 degrees and above. If the temperature is below 30 degrees, student must have coats outdoors. If the temperature is below 40 degrees, students must have sleeves/pants to play outdoors. It is also appropriate to have hats, gloves and boots.  If your students might need any of these items, notify our office you’re your child’s teacher.

Please give yourself extra time to walk and drive to school or arrive at the bus stop safely. On wet, wintry days, we are lenient with tardies because we want everyone arriving to school safe, sound, and ready to learn. School cancellations are rare in Utah.   • Let’s Share our Grandparents! and our PopPops, Meemaws, Nanas, Abuelas, Gamees, Papis, Abuelos… Just because we can’t be with our grandparents for our traditional Grandparents’ Day read along this year doesn’t mean we can’t show how much we love them.

To safely celebrate our grandparents, we’ll be showing a special video tribute, sharing cherished photos of our Bell View family’s grandparents with our school families. But we need your help. Send a favorite photo of your child spending quality time with their grandparent or special loved one to: rachel.bingham@canyonsdistrict.org or text it to 801-819-2568 by Thursday, March 4.

Be sure to include your child’s name and their teacher’s when you send it in. We’ll be compiling these into a tribute video to share with our community!
