Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that 2016-2017 school year is coming to an end. Many of our students have begun taking their end of level tests and are preparing for end of year activities. We have had a very successful school year. We have been impressed with how hard our students have worked. We would love to have you join us for the end of year activities. Please watch for notes and Skylerts listing important dates and times.
As we prepare for next year, and you know that your student will not be returning to Bell View, please notify our office. This makes it easier for us to plan when we are making class lists. Many parents have requested the opportunity to request specific learning environments or teachers for their students. I believe in placing students in a class where both parents and teachers can work together for the success of our students. If you would like to submit a request for your student for the 2017-2018 school year, please stop by the office and fill out a request form. Please know that there are limited spaces for requests, we will do our best to honor them. Teacher assignments and grade levels may change. Filling out a request does NOT guarantee placement in the requested class.
All learning environment requests must be completed and turned into the office by Friday, May 19th. Requests received after this date will be placed on a waiting list. Here is a temporary list of teacher assignments for each grade.

Kindergarten News
We have been hopping along this month taking all those letter sounds and high frequency words to good use, as we practice writing sentences and reading decodable books. In math, we’ve been learning those tricky teen numbers and looking for patterns with the 100 chart. Our unit has been different ways to travel. We traveled to the aquarium for a very fun fieldtrip. Looking ahead to May, we will extend our reading and writing skills, work on geometry, measurement, and date for math and learn about different ways to build. We will finish the year with our little Kindergarten programs (TBA) and a visit from Wild Wonders. Thanks for the opportunity to teach your children. It has been a very rewarding experience.

 2nd Grade News

Welcome Spring! Our 2nd graders recently enjoyed a wonderful field trip to the aquarium where we learned a lot about different animals and fish from around the world! A big thank you to the parent volunteers who were able to come and help support! As grades 3-5 work hard on their SAGE testing, 2nd grade will be working hard on benchmark testing also! Students who are demonstrating good test taking skills will have an opportunity to earn tickets that can be entered in drawings to win fun prizes!

In math, we are going to begin learning about graphing data and geometry. These are fun units that the students look forward to learning about and practicing. Keep logging the reading minutes at home in order to gain reading skills... and to get to go to the monthly reading party!

What’s Happening in 1st Grade?

Welcome to the last month of the school year! We have a field trip coming up this month to the Planetarium. We are also beginning our ABC count down this month and will be starting with the letter Z all the way down to the last day of school with the letter A. Your first grader has mastered so many new things this year we know that they are going to be ready for second grade!

3rd Grade News
Third grade students have been diligently learning many
skills and strategies across the curriculum throughout the
school year. May is an exciting month in which they get to
demonstrate how much they have learned during the year as
they embark on their SAGE journey. It has been so
rewarding to see how much growth each and every student in
the third grade has made since the beginning of the year!
Have you noticed how much your child’s vocabulary has
expanded this year? That’s because we have learned 247
Amazing oral vocabulary Words, 175 tested vocabulary
words, and 91 math vocabulary terms! We have read 25
reading selections, 25 paired selections and 5 full length
novels. Our students are becoming wonderfully fluent
readers! In Math, we have expanded our knowledge in adding
and subtracting 3 digit numbers, we are becoming more
fluent with our multiplication and division facts (please help
your child practice these at home to master them!), and we
have learned about fractions, geometry, algebra, and the art of
solving story problems! We are looking forward to seeing
how our scholars shine with knowledge and understanding on
their SAGE results!

4th Grade News

We have had some fun 100% homework parties that our students have earned. We really appreciate those parents who volunteered to help with our Olympic Game party and our Treasure Hunt party. Students who completed 100% of March’s homework will be allowed to bring their favorite board games or other games to play with their peers for our Game party. Students who complete 100% of April’s homework will earn a field trip to Bear Park.

We have been working hard to learn to write both informative and opinion essays. We have completed our science curriculum and will now be reviewing what we have learned in preparation for our upcoming SAGE test at the end of the year. We are working hard to learn our Utah songs for our upcoming 4th grade program. You won’t want to miss it. We will be sending information soon regarding costumes, parts and the date for our program.

We hope you have a great spring recess and keep reading!
